Hello! I'm Teodora, I have been a Certified Rolfer™ Since 2016. I completed my training at the prestigious Dr. Ida Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado. My professional affiliations include being a proud member of the California Massage Therapy Council (CMTC).
My practice is enriched by my background in psychology, holding a B.S. degree that allows me to bring a holistic perspective to my work. This foundation helps me to understand the intricate connection between physical and emotional well-being, ensuring a comprehensive approach to health.
I look forward to the opportunity to support you on your path to greater comfort and ease in your body.My journey into the world of bodywork began in 2011, ignited by a loved one's challenging recovery from significant injuries and surgeries. Witnessing their arduous healing process, I was compelled to explore alternative therapies beyond conventional medical treatments.
It was during this exploration that we discovered Rolfing and myofascial therapy. I was profoundly touched by the remarkable improvements and transformative effects we observed, including softened scar tissue, significantly increased range of motion, and a profound renewal of confidence. This experience inspired me to help guiding and supporting others on their unique healing journeys through the principles of Structural Integration. My purpose as a Structural Integration Practitioner is to empower you to live a more comfortable and functional life by increasing your body awareness and refining your movement patterns. I believe that true well-being comes not just from addressing symptoms, but from understanding and correcting the root causes of physical discomfort.
Through my work, I focus on several key areas to help you achieve lasting change:
Many of us develop poor posture from daily habits, such as sitting at a desk for hours, looking down at our phones, or carrying a heavy bag on one shoulder. Over time, these habits can lead to muscle tightness and weakness, pulling our bodies out of alignment. My goal is to help you recognize these imbalances and then systematically release the tension in the connective tissue, or fascia, that holds them in place. For example, a "hunched back" can be a result of tight chest muscles and weakened back muscles. By lengthening the chest and freeing up the fascia around the ribs and shoulders, we can allow your body to naturally find a more upright and effortless posture. The result is often a feeling of being taller, more open, and less strained.
Chronic pain is often a complex issue with deep roots in the fascial system. Unlike a sudden injury, chronic pain can develop gradually as the body compensates for imbalances. Think of it like a knot in a rope: pulling one end of the rope can tighten the knot in the middle. Similarly, tightness in your hips could be the source of your chronic lower back pain. I work to release these fascial restrictions throughout the body, addressing the entire chain of tension rather than just the area of discomfort. By systematically unwinding these patterns, we can often alleviate long-standing pain that hasn't responded to other treatments.
After an injury, the body's natural response is to create scar tissue and tighten the surrounding areas to protect itself. While this is a necessary part of the healing process, it can also lead to limited range of motion and a greater risk of future injury. For example, after a hamstring strain, the scar tissue can make the muscle feel tight and inflexible, even after it has healed. My work helps to soften and integrate this scar tissue, allowing the muscle to regain its full length and function. By restoring balance and fluidity to your movement, we can create a more resilient body that is less susceptible to re-injury.
Whether from an old surgical incision or an accident, scar tissue can create significant restrictions in the body. It's often dense and unyielding, acting like a "glue" that can limit movement and even pull on other parts of your body. For instance, a C-section scar can create tension in the abdomen that affects posture and leads to back pain. I use gentle, precise pressure to work directly with the scar tissue, encouraging it to become softer and more pliable. This process helps to integrate the scarred area back into the body's natural fascial web, restoring function and reducing discomfort.
Repetitive strain injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome or "tech neck," are common in our modern world. They occur when the same movements are performed over and over, leading to inflammation and fascial thickening. A musician, for example, might develop shoulder and neck pain from holding their instrument in a particular way for years. I address these issues by working to release the fascial patterns that have been created by these repetitive motions. By restoring freedom and balance to the arms, neck, and shoulders, we can reduce the strain on the affected areas and help you find a new, more efficient way of moving.
Ultimately, my goal is to guide you in rediscovering your body's innate ability to heal and move with ease. Through this process, you will not only experience a reduction in pain and improved function but also develop a deeper, more mindful connection with your own body.Fluent in both English and Spanish, I am eager to collaborate with individuals seeking to reclaim their wellness and find balance in their bodies.
Whether you are navigating postural challenges, recovering from injuries, or simply aiming for improved overall health and alignment, I am here to guide you on your personalized journey to well-being
